The holidays are the most wonderful time of the year — but they are also some of the most stressful. Between finishing up the year, planning for the next, attending events with family and friends, and more, to say life gets hectic is an understatement.
Flights can be expensive and – let’s be real – no one has time for extended vacations this time of year. So finding a spot that is “far enough away” without being a hassle is key. And for all of us living in Atlanta, Brasstown Valley Resort & Spa is that perfect weekend getaway.
Brasstown Valley is a breathtaking resort nestled in the North Georgia Mountains – just two hours outside Atlanta. Between the 7,500-square-foot spa, championship golf course, multiple hiking trails and more, there is something for every type of visitor to enjoy.
My first visit to Brasstown Valley Resort & Spa was just a few weeks ago, and driving up to the grounds was an absolute dream. Being the start of fall, the leaves were changing and the air was crisp. I couldn’t wait to explore.
First on the agenda was a trip to Equani, Brasstown Valley’s lodge-style spa. Upon arrival, I was led to the changing room equipped with lockers to keep your valuables safe during treatments, restrooms, showers and a steam room. I slipped into a comfy robe and sandals, and then headed to the relaxation area.
The relaxation area area was filled with comfy lounge chairs and healthy snacks in a serene environment. It was just what I needed to get ready for my “Swedish Relaxation” massage — which just happened to be the best massage I had ever experienced. It was the perfect mix of “fixing my problem areas” and pure relaxation.
I felt like a completely new person after my time at Equani. And then it was time to meet my boyfriend on the golf course! He teed off about an hour before my massage, so I caught him right between the 15th and 16th hole. I’m not much of a golfer myself, but even as an amateur I could tell this was an impressive golf course. It winds through wildlife preserves, ponds and streams, and overlooks the mountains!
I rode back with him on one of Brasstown Valley’s golf carts and we headed inside to unwind by the fireplace. With a glass of wine in hand and the sound of the fire crackling, I was once again in full-relaxation mode.
Next up was dinner in The Dining Room, the resort’s cozy restaurant with a killer buffet. I opted for the Local Mountain Trout Almondine off the regular menu, but our server let me make my own starter salad from the buffet!
After dinner we grabbed one last drink at Brassies Grill, the downstairs restaurant and bar with a more casual feel. This was my favorite part of the night because I totally beat my boyfriend at pool!! I must have really been in the zone, thanks to the relaxing day I just had, because admittedly that doesn’t happen often.
And just like that our wonderful day had come to a close. The next morning we returned to The Dining Room for breakfast and sought out some of Brasstown Valley’s famous hiking trails. We ended up at Brasstown Valley’s Scenic Overlook and were completely mesmerized by the view.
Wanting to extend our weekend getaway just a bit longer, we stopped at a local vineyard located just a few miles down the road. Crane Creek Vineyards has a special charm with its gorgeous views and delicious wine. We sat down with a bottle of Hellbender Red, cheese and crackers, and were often greeted by the adorable dogs living on the property.
So if you’re looking for a relaxing weekend getaway, consider Brasstown Valley Resort & Spa. Between the activities, its beauty and proximity to Atlanta, you’d be hard-pressed to find a more memorable option.
