Can you believe Christmas is less than two weeks away?! With the holidays right around the corner you’re probably trying to cross those last few gift items off your list! And if you’re anything like me you’re looking to save a bit too. Terrific Thursdays, Decatur’s weekly holiday shopping experience, can help you with both!
Decatur has been celebrating the holidays since November with special events like the tree lighting, breakfast with Santa and more. But don’t worry, the fun hasn’t ended yet! This Thursday, December 15, is Decatur’s last “Terrific Thursday” of the season. And you definitely don’t want to miss it!
Terrific Thursdays are filled with special in-store events, discounts and treats from more than 30 Decatur shops and restaurants. There is a wide variety of local stores to check out, so you’ll be able to shop for everyone on your list! The participating locations will stay open after-hours to offer patrons snacks, beverages and can’t-miss deals. For a full list of participating establishments click here.
And even if you don’t have a ton of shopping to do, this week’s Terrific Thursday is worth a visit for the bonfire and marshmallow roast! Bonfire on the Square features student choral groups, holiday music and (best of all) marshmallow roasting! The event is 100% free of charge but reservations are encouraged to ensure the proper number of marshmallows and roasting sticks. Is there anything better than gooey marshmallows on a cool night? I don’t think so! Reservations for Bonfire on the Square can be made here.
Terrific Thursdays also incorporated a public art scavenger hunt to this year’s event. Each Thursday the city hides ten artist-designed wooden octopi in different Decatur shops for customers to find. And if you’re one of the lucky ones, post your art to Instagram using #octopidecatur! You can see some of the cool pieces of art that customers have found here.
So if you don’t have plans this Thursday, check out Terrific Thursdays! Between the shopping, the snacks and the holiday cheer I know you’ll have a wonderful time.
