Atlanta’s Best Farmers Markets

by | Mar 13, 2016 | Activities

Springtime in Atlanta comes with many mixed emotions. Everyone is thrilled about the beautiful weather (that lasts about two weeks until the heat of summer rolls in) while complaints about the pollen become a hot topic. But one thing we can all get excited about in spring is the opening of farmers markets!

Now don’t get me wrong, I’m a huge fan of specialty grocery stores (shout out Whole Foods, Fresh Market and Sprouts!), but there’s nothing quite like strolling down the sidewalk on a beautiful day shopping for your weekly produce. So with Farmers Market Season upon us, I wanted to share my four favorite markets!

Grant ParkGrant Park Farmers Market

600 Cherokee Ave SE, Atlanta, GA 30312

Sundays from 9:30 am – 1:30 pm

Open for the season April 3, 2016

This one is a little out of the way for me- I’m a Buckhead gal- but I go almost every weekend. It’s that good. This is one of the largest Atlanta farmers markets and the selection is top-notch. You’ll find everything from fresh vegetables to delicious soups to fresh pastries to ice cream and so much more. Come hungry, because you’ll definitely want to try everything! But luckily, Grant Park is so beautiful that you can just walk off your farmers market goodies once you’ve finished shopping.

Be sure to check the website each week to see which Atlanta chef will be holding the chef demo. It’s so fun learning how to best prepare the local produce—especially when it’s coming from my favorite local chefs!

Peachtree RoadPeachtree Road Farmers Market

2744 Peachtree Road NW, Atlanta, Georgia 30305

Saturdays from 8:30 am – 12 pm (April – Sept.), 9 am – 12 pm (Oct. – Dec.); Wednesdays from 4:30 pm – 8:30 pm (April – October)

Open for the season April 2, 2016

As I mentioned before, I live in Buckhead. So for me this one is a no-brainer. But the location is absolutely not the only reason I frequent this farmers market so often. I’d say Peachtree Road ties with Grant Park on selection- there is so much variety! This farmers market also hosts weekly chef demos, so be sure to check the website to see which chef is scheduled to host each week.

*Insider tip: Get there early to snag a bouquet of flowers. The flowers at Peachtree Road Farmers Market are my favorite! So bright and beautiful.

Green Market

1071 Piedmont Ave NE, Atlanta, GA 30309

Saturdays from 9 am – 1 pm

Open for the season March 19, 2016

When it comes to location, you can’t beat Piedmont Park. Green Market is a little smaller than the first two, but still has quality vendors. Come
ready to taste sweets, produce and more. And like both Grant Park and Peachtree Road, Green Market hosts chef demos. Green Market also has live music and kids activities, making it an awesome choice for the whole family!

WestsideWestside Farmers Market

1100 Howell Mill Rd, Atlanta, GA 30318

Sundays from 10 am – 2 pm

Open for the season April 10

Westside Farmers Market is definitely the smallest market of the bunch, but I have to agree with the saying: sometimes big things come in small packages! Westside has many of the best market vendors, featuring local produce, humanely raised meat, baked goods and more!

And for all you West Egg Café fans (like me)… I always head over to West Egg, put my name down and then walk the market. Definitely makes the hour wait move along quickly! Plus you get your shopping and eating done. Two birds, one stone!

*Bonus: Ponce City Farmers Market

On the Beltline just outside of Ponce City Market

Tuesdays from 4 – 8 pm

Open for the season May 3

For the first time ever, Ponce City Market will host a farmers market! Now I clearly can’t speak from experience, but so far I haven’t had any bad experiences at PCM, so I have a feeling the farmers market will be equally amazing. Excited to check it out!
